The company is unveiling a £400,000-plus investment in product development facilities and personnel. The company has appointed Neil Sholes into a new role as Head of Product Design and Innovation and has built an ‘Innovation Centre’ at its headquarters.
Neil’s remit for Zest is to spearhead a dedicated team researching and designing new product in line with consumer trends, driving product sustainability and further developing key concepts such as ‘easy build’.
The Innovation Centre is a state-of-the-art product design and development suite including research and concept development, the latest CAD design technology, a prototyping build area, a production studio, and a marketing zone.
Staff recruitment to ramp up supply
Meanwhile Zest has also recruited an initial four staff in the UK and Eastern Europe with further appointments planned as it ramps up its commitment to supply.
Managing director, Steve Morgan explained:
“Being outdoors, feeling close to nature and enjoying our outside spaces has become more important than ever; and our current products are massively in demand. Customer satisfaction and innovation are both key to Zest and we are investing in design ideas and sustainable product supply to ensure we remain ahead of the game.”
New products at Glee 2021
Zest is also launching a series of new products at Glee. To satisfy the increased consumer demand for Grow Your Own, it has created the Tall Vertical Herb Stand, which maximizes growing space on a small footprint with easy access to five troughs.
The new Small Space Cold Frame (pictured below), designed to fit onto the bestselling Raised Herb Planter also works as a standalone product or when combined with the herb planter becomes an easily accessible cold frame with greater growing depth.
The Folding Garden Bar (pictured below) comes ready built and is ideal for the new trend in outdoor entertaining. Multipurpose, it can also be used as a potting table and folded away easily and stored for winter.
Existing products including the top award winners from Glee 2020 will also be on the stand including the company’s easy build collection, designed with convenience in mind and with just a few elements to assemble all fitting together simply.
Commitment to Sustainability
The Zest 4 Leisure range is made from slow-grown sustainable FSC® (C114990) timber and crafted for comfort and style using DFMA (design for manufacture and assembly) principles.
This year, Zest is collaborating with its main Polish manufacturing partner on a re-planting scheme with the Polish Forestry Authority, whilst in Wales, Zest is working towards collaborating with environmental organisations on sustainable management of wooded habitats.
Zest is also committed to minimising its carbon footprint across all aspects of the business including promoting factory direct deliveries for bulk loads to minimise mileage and packaging.
